Smart Switches / Installation
Can I use a smart switch with fluorescent light?
Short answer: Fluorescent starter lamps and dimmer circuits are usually not recommended, especially for no-neutral smart switches.
Explanation
Many no-neutral smart switches work best with compatible LED lighting loads. Fluorescent lights with starters, certain ballast designs and dimmer circuits may cause flickering, buzzing, unstable switching or pairing problems.
If the product page states that fluorescent starter lamps or dimmer circuits are not supported, do not use the switch with that load. For reliable operation, use compatible LED lights within the product's rated wattage and install the capacitor if required by the model.
Common mistakes
- Using the switch with fluorescent starter lamps
- connecting to a dimmer circuit
- assuming any light load is compatible.
Troubleshooting / next steps
- Check the lamp type and driver/ballast. If flickering occurs, test with a compatible LED load and verify capacitor installation.
