Sensors, Sirens & Doorbells / Temperature Sensor

Can temperature sensor trigger air conditioner automation?

Short answer: Yes, a temperature sensor can trigger scenes, but the air conditioner usually still needs a WiFi universal IR remote or compatible smart aircon controller to receive the command.

Explanation

A temperature sensor can be used as a condition in automation, such as turning on the air conditioner when the room is too warm. However, the sensor itself does not control the air conditioner directly.

For most air conditioners that use infrared remote control, a WiFi universal IR remote is needed to send commands such as power, temperature, mode and fan speed. If the air conditioner has its own smart controller or app integration, compatibility depends on that ecosystem.

Always check whether the air conditioner uses IR remote and whether the universal remote supports the model or learning function.
