Buying Guide, Installation & Support / Installation
Do I need an electrician for smart switch installation?
Short answer: Yes, we recommend using a qualified electrician, especially for no-neutral, neutral, 2-way, high-load or DB box installations.
Explanation
Smart switches involve live electrical wiring. Incorrect wiring can damage the device, cause tripping, create unstable operation or become a safety risk.
A qualified electrician should install or verify the wiring, especially when neutral wire availability is unclear, a capacitor is required, the circuit is 2-way, or the switch controls a high-load appliance. For DB box products such as smart meters or smart breakers, professional installation is strongly recommended.
Common mistakes
- DIY installation without identifying live/load/neutral
- assuming wire colours are always reliable
- installing high-load devices without checking ampere rating.
Troubleshooting / next steps
- Turn off power before inspection. Take clear wiring photos and verify with an electrician if you are unsure.
