Automation
Can I schedule a smart switch to turn on and off automatically?
Yes, most app-based smart switches support schedules and timers.
Can smart switches work with motion sensors?
Yes, if both devices are in the same compatible ecosystem or linked through automation.
Can I set the smart switch to turn on after power returns?
Some models support power-on state settings.
Capacitor
How does a no-neutral smart switch get power?
It uses a very small current through the lighting circuit, often assisted by a capacitor installed at the light side.
Why does a no-neutral smart switch need a capacitor?
The capacitor helps stabilise the small current used to power the switch and reduces flickering, glowing or offline issues.
Where should the capacitor be installed for a no-neutral smart switch?
Usually at the light side across the first lighting circuit, often L1, but always follow the exact product wiring diagram.
Can one capacitor support multiple smart switch gangs?
It depends on the product design. Many no-neutral switches specify the capacitor position for the first load, usually L1.
Does the capacitor consume electricity?
It may allow a very small current for the smart switch circuit, but the consumption is normally very low.
Compatibility
Can a smart switch work without WiFi?
Manual on/off usually still works, but app and remote features need internet.
Can I control the switch when I am outside home?
Yes, if the switch is a WiFi/cloud-connected model and is online.
Does the smart switch support Google Home?
Usually yes if stated in the product description.
Does the smart switch support Amazon Alexa?
Usually yes if stated in the product description.
What is the difference between Smart Life and eWeLink smart switches?
They use different apps and ecosystems.
What is the difference between WiFi, Zigbee and RF smart switches?
WiFi connects to router, Zigbee needs gateway, RF is local remote control.
Can a Smart Life switch be added to eWeLink?
No, Smart Life and eWeLink are different ecosystems.
Can eWeLink switches be used in Smart Life app?
No, eWeLink devices use the eWeLink app only.
Can multiple phones control the same smart switch?
Yes, by using home sharing or device sharing in the app.
Can I use a smart switch in Malaysia homes?
Yes, if the model voltage and wiring are suitable.
Can a smart switch be used for ceiling fan?
Only if the fan load is compatible and no speed control is required. For no-neutral switches, a ceiling fan is not recommended on L1/capacitor circuit.
Do eWeLink smart switches support RF remote?
Not all eWeLink switches support RF; check the product model.

Installation
Why do I need to consider whether a neutral wire is available?
Smart switches need power for their internal electronics. Knowing whether a neutral wire is available helps you choose the correct model and installation method.
Can I install a smart switch without a neutral wire?
Yes, but only if the model supports no-neutral installation. Most WiFi no-neutral models require a capacitor for stable operation.
Can I use a smart switch for air conditioner?
There are two parts to consider: the electrical load/switch rating and the control method. A normal lighting smart switch should not be used for an air conditioner unless the switch or relay is rated for the load. For automation, a WiFi universal IR remote is usually needed because most air conditioners are controlled by infrared remote.
Can I use a smart switch for water heater?
Only if the product is specifically rated for the heater load.
Can one smart switch control multiple lights?
Yes, if the total load is within the switch rating and the lights are on the same circuit.
Can I replace a conventional 2-way switch with a smart switch?
Sometimes, but conventional 2-way wiring is not always directly compatible and may need to be rewired.
Does a smart switch support 2-way control?
Only some models or setups support 2-way control. Many installations use app automation or wireless scene switches instead of conventional 2-way wiring.
Can I use a smart switch with fluorescent light?
Fluorescent starter lamps and dimmer circuits are usually not recommended, especially for no-neutral smart switches.
Can I use smart switch with dimmable lights?
Only if the smart switch is a dimmer model.
What capacitor should I use for a no-neutral smart switch?
Use the capacitor supplied or recommended by the manufacturer for that exact switch model.
Will the smart switch fit a standard 86mm wall box?
Many models use 86mm format, but depth and wiring space still matter.
Can I use smart switch for LED strip lights?
Yes if the LED driver/load is compatible and within rating.
Can I install a smart switch if I only have live wire and load wire?
Yes, but only with a no-neutral or 2-in-1 model that supports this wiring, and a capacitor may be required.
Does the smart switch include a capacitor?
The capacitor is included with purchase for 2-in-1 smart switches and no-neutral smart switches. Pure neutral-wire versions do not include a capacitor and should not be used with one.

Neutral Wire
What is a neutral wire?
A neutral wire completes the electrical circuit and provides a return path for current. In smart switch installation, it can provide stable power for the switch electronics.
How can I check if my switch box has a neutral wire?
The safest way is to let a qualified electrician check the wiring. Do not rely only on wire colour.
Why do some homes not have a neutral wire at the switch?
Many conventional lighting circuits only bring live and load wires to the wall switch because mechanical switches do not need their own power supply.
What is a 2-in-1 smart switch?
A 2-in-1 smart switch can work with neutral wire or without neutral wire, depending on the installation.
Can Zigbee or RF smart switches work without neutral wire and without a capacitor?
Some low-power Zigbee or RF models may work in some installations, but it depends on the load and is not guaranteed.
Can I add a neutral wire to the switch box?
In some homes it is possible, but it depends on the existing wiring route and should only be done by a qualified electrician.
